I mentioned you in my email about the legislative meeting this Friday. I got this information from Denise Phillips with Captions Unlimited of Nevada, Inc. They will be there providing CART, too To access the streaming captioning on the legislature’s website, go to http://www.leg.state.nv.us/. Go to the right of the page to Live Meetings/Listen View. Then scroll down and find the captioning link under the listing of the meeting. It will open up and you will see text on one side. If you don’t see text, you could have a pop-up blocker blocking the text. So hit CTRL (the control button) at the same time as you hit the captioning link. It will disable popup blockers on that page. If you have any questions or are unable to access the text, feel free to email denise@captionsunlimited.com or shawn@captionsunlimited.com. SB 165 – Revises provisions governing the use of interpreters in judicial proceedings for persons with certain disabilities. (BDR 54-650) SB 473 – Makes various changes concerning the practice of interpreting and the practice of real-time captioning. (BDR 54-295) Laura Daviton March 27, 2007Good Legislative News

Tomorrow you will be reading some real great news, the Legislature has initiated a bill that includes many of our proposals and requests for things such as starting a Pilot/model school program designed to enhance deaf education for our deaf and hard of hearing youngsters. Proposes to appropriated monies to training and bring in deaf educators as well as having mentors and much more. Watch for and read SB 525 tomorrow. Am sure you are already aware that there is another bill SB 473 in a committee which will reorganize NCAC in ODS and put some focus on interpreters issues. We got work ahead of us, united we win!
