Valley View Blvd. Suite 12, Las Vegas, NV In this workshop, Jeremiah Smith will share some of the lessons he’s learned from the best poker players in the world while working on Full Tilt Poker Acacdemy. He was able to put tips from pros like Allen Cunningham, Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson into practice himself when he made it to Day 5 of the WSOP main event this summer. This workshop is the perfect opportunity to practice your skills before the World Deaf Poker Tournament (www.lasvegasdeaf.org/poker). Disability Awareness Month When: Wednesday, Oct. 1, 11 a.m.-2 p.m Where: UNR, Joe Crowley Student Union FREE NOONTIME BBQ! Come join the third annual Accommodations Fair for students and prospective students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Disability services administrators, students, parents and community members will also have the opportunity to see accommodations “in action” at exhibit booths. This event will have social and educational activities for deaf and hard of hearing youth from Northern Nevada. Type of Appointment: Full-Time Location: Las Vegas Posting Date: August 28, 2008 Closing Date: September 26, 2008 Salary: $42,953 - $46,458 DOE, plus customary benefits General Description Individual will supervise staff at the designed Regional Office. Performs Quality Control, develop and strategize work activities of staff for short-term as well as long term; Coordinate Community Education and Program Initiatives for the Region the office serves; Maintain and oversee Client’s files to ensure Office maintains compliance with Case-Management practices and Confidentiality laws as required by the Laws of the State of Nevada; Generates Quarterly report stats as derived from Case-Management and Support Specialist staff work load. Evaluate staff performance. Handle more complex cases. Individual may conduct advocacy activities same as the Case Management Specialist’s description for Rural area that will ensure a higher quality of life for its clients and promote equitable access to Health/Medical, educational, social, employment and legal services. Willingness to travel is essential as well as work evening and weekend hours when needed. Ability to work independently as well as a team is essential. Do other duties as assigned by Executive Director. Work Experience Requirements - Supervising experience - One year relatable experience (i.e. advocate or case management specialist) preferably with deaf and hoh in Social Services Sector - Knowledge and experience working with deaf and hard of hearing communities - Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Access/Database - Fluency in ASL (American Sign Language) - Knowledge of Deaf Culture Education Requirements Bachelor of Arts Degree Preferred but can be substituted for work experience. Formula will be based on 2 years of work experience for one year of education beyond high school. The Board of Directors of NVAD is very pleased to announce the appointment of Edina Jambor as our Executive Director of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy Resource Center (DHHARC). After an extensive national search, we are excited to have selected Ms.Jambor to lead DHHARC to provide services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing consumers of Nevada. The Board is very delighted to have Ms. Jambor’s knowledge, dedication and enthusiasm brought into the organization. Ms. Jambor’s successes in the community involvement to work together on projects, were critical to the Board’s final decision. Ms. Jambor has contributed to collaborate with the school districts of the state of Nevada on Deaf Education issues. She has developed and met the strategic goals and objectives for the social services of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing consumers. Ms. Jambor has work for DHHARC as Regional Office Supervisor for 2 years. She has dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and American Studies and dual Master of Arts degrees in Sociology and Social Psychology. She is currently a Ph.D Candidate in Social Psychology due to be completed in 2009. The Board of Directors want to thank Laura Daviton for her role as interim Executive Director after Gary Olsen’s departure in August 2007. Ms. Daviton who has broad experience in managing non-profit organization was highly complemented during the Board of Directors' meeting last Friday evening for her extreme dedication and hard work to ensure a smooth transition for our new executive director. Again, thank you Ms. Daviton for your well done job for the last 14 months, your work is very much appreciated by the Board of Directors. Ms. Daviton will resume her original Office Manager position effective October 16, 2008 when Ms. Jambor officially starts as Executive Director.
