POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: PART-TIME SPECIAL PROJECT COORDINATOR

ORGANIZATION: Nevada Association of the Deaf (NVAD) Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy Resource Center (DHHARC) is a statewide advocacy, resource, telecommunications distribution, and direct service center offering advocacy, referral and community education services throughout Nevada. DHHARC has two offices in Reno/Sparks and Las Vegas.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Type of appointment: Part-Time
Location: Position available in Sparks, Nevada

Closing date: February 12, 2009

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under direct supervision from DHHARC performs duties in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and supervising the youth program and activities for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in Nevada, scheduling activities, facilities and volunteers as required, assisting with public relation duties such as writing letters, preparing and distributing flyers, press releases and brochures, encouraging local youth to participate in the programs, and preparing plans for youth activities. Other duties will include helping coordinate outside entertainment, such as tickets, sports events, etc., and maintaining inventory of art/craft supplies and equipments. Job duties also include travel; night and weekend may be required.

SALARY: $15 per hour for 20 hours a week

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be proficient in American Sign Language and other communication modes used by Deaf persons, have demonstrated capability to successfully work with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community
• Able to administer youth activities
• Considerable knowledge of developing and administering recreation program for youth
• Able to balance multiple tasks and priorities as well as be a good team player
• In-depth knowledge of Deaf Community’s needs
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
• High School diploma or GED

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
· Operates keyboard to enter data into the company computer
· Enter constituent data for all individuals including address updates, demographics, and notes

CONTRACT SERVICE: $12 per hour for 20 hrs a week. Contract ends on June 30, 2009 or with the possibility of extension if needed.
· Willing to work temporary assignment
· Ideal for students or individuals seeking additional income

ABILITY TO:
· Use basic computer programs and type fast and accurately
· Understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions
· Handle confidential information appropriately
· Understand and use basic American Sign Language and other communication modes used by Deaf persons – proficiency is not required
· Able to work independently as well as be a good team player

She is the host of an Internet talk radio show called, Disability Matters, which airs on Tuesdays 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM eastern time at www.voiceamerica.com. The show is real-time captioned for the deaf and hard of hearing. Ms. Benderhas won multiple awards for her work in employment of individuals with disabilities including the President’s Award from President Bill Clinton and the New Freedom Initiative Award from the current Bush Administration. In two years, Ms. Bender will also be the National Chair for the Epilepsy Foundation.
